Kate Mulgew will »Star Trek:VOYAGER« verlassen

Schon seit Wochen geistern Gerüchte durch die Medien, daß Kate Mulgrew die Serie STAR TREK:Voyager verlassen will, bevor ihr normaler Vertrag ausläuft. Kate Mulgrew, die auf der VOYAGER als Captn. Janeway für den Heimflug ihr Crew sorgt, hat nun in einem Interview auch ein paar Gründe genannt: »My children want me to quit. They’re normal kids and they want a normal mother.« – »Meine Kinder wollen, daß ich aufhöre. Sie sind normale Kinder und sie wollen eine normale Mutter.«
(»I’m so privileged and happy I had this job. But we’re talking about a block of time that I’ve missed now with them; years in which nurturing was crucial to them, to their self-esteem, the kind of nurturing that comes without conditions or contingencies, the kind of nurturing that is so simple and basic to human nature regarding the relationship between mother and son. We missed it. […] I asked my boys to grow up way before I should have… asked them to understand their mother is a celebrity – a concept no 10-year-old boy should have to deal with as they’re entering puberty. I asked them to accept a kind of maturity and responsibility that I think was an imposition. [F]urthermore I asked them to applaud me, be proud of your mother. I asked them to do the impossible thing. They just wanted a good meal, a slap on the butt, a mother.«)
Außerdem plane sie in New York wieder am Theater zu spielen.

Anscheinend hat aber Kate Mulgrew mit den Machern der Serie noch nicht über ihre Pläne gesprochen. Doch sie will in der von Captn. Janeway bekannten Art für eine Lösung des Vertrages plädieren: »I think if I speak with my heart, I expect my employers will be as gracious as they can be. I’ll do my level best to accommodate them as well. I want to see my boys before they’re gone. I’ve one more year with my older son. I haven’t seen them.«

Währenddessen sprechen natürlich auch wieder die ersten Gerüchte von Planungen für eine neue Star Trek-Fernseherie. Da anscheinend Prequels derzeit sehr »in« zu sein scheinen, wurde wieder einmal das Konzept von »Star Trek Academy« augewärmt, eine Serie, die VOR der klassischen Star Trek-Saga spielen, und die Ausbildung einer Reihe von Kadetten behandeln soll.
